Crowns are applied to teeth that have been structurally damaged, as well as those that have become weak, misaligned, misshapen, or otherwise in need of a corrective cosmetic repair. A crown is a cap that entirely covers the tooth and can dramatically improve the appearance and functionality of the tooth. There are many reasons for needing tooth crowns, including:
ROOT CANAL TREATMENT
EXCESSIVE TOOTH WEAR
ABNORMAL TOOTH DEVELOPMENT
Choose from a variety of materials to construct a custom crown for your tooth. The location, aesthetic considerations, and utility of the tooth in question will impact the decision for the most appropriate material to construct your crown.
Are you wondering how a tooth crown is applied? For the most durable and attractive tooth crown application, Auburn Family Dental installs crowns over the course of two appointments. During your first appointment, Dr. Chen will clean and prepare your existing tooth structure to accept the crown. This may include the placement of a “build-up” filling. An impression of the base that the crown will be applied to will be made, and then sent to the lab. Before you leave our office after your first appointment, you will have a temporary crown created and installed by Dr. Chen. Your final appointment will be scheduled within the following three to four weeks. Your temporary crown will then be removed and your professional, state-of-the-art, lab-created crown will be permanently installed into your tooth.
Do you need a replacement for a single lost or severely damaged tooth? Consider a custom tooth implant crown to replace one or more of your natural teeth. Dr. Chen will install an implant into your jawbone and then immediately (or after a period of healing) attach an abutment to the implant. Your tooth implant crown will then be attached to the abutment to create a permanent replacement for your tooth. The crown will be virtually indistinguishable from your natural teeth.
